Shaker Heritage Society is proud to announce that the Albany County Legislature unanimously voted to extend a 15 year lease agreement to the Society. This will allow the Society to tap into a $250,000 grant that it received through NYS Assemblyman Bob Reilly’s office. These funds will be used to repair the roof, sills and siding of the 1916 Shaker barn complex. We plan to begin work in the spring of 2011.
In the meantime, Passonno Paint and Latham Rotary have donated paint for the 1916 Barn Complex. The Society is seeking volunteers to assist with this project. We hope to have the barn return to its original pristine white color by the end of the summer. We are very grateful for the generous donations made by Latham Rotary and Passonno Paint.
Society Board members and the Northeastern Woodworkers Association recently constructed a new foot bridge across Shaker Creek. The bridge greatly improves pedestrian access to the historic site. Albany County and Faddegon’s Building and Remodeling provided funding for the project.
The Society is also currently working to develop a comprehensive Capital Improvement Plan to guide efforts to stabilize the historic structures at the Shaker Site.
Please contact Starlyn D’Angelo at Director@Shakerheritage.org if you would like to join our effort to preserve this nationally significant historic site.
